Problem Summary |
There is a time period before a non passing candidate can re-sit a
specific examination but it is not clear whether this applies to an
alternative examination in the program. |
Problem Description [CSC template]
|
With reference to "TOGAF? Certification for People Certification
Policy" Section "1.4 Examinations and Courses", section "1.6
Migration". The text states that the Bridge exam is an optional route to
TOGAF9 certification for certified TOGAF8 architects. It also implies
that the TOGA9 level 1 (foundation) and level 2 (certified) exam can be
used to gain TOGAF9 certification, irrespective of an applicants
previous TOGAF certification status.
"Section 2. CERTIFICATION PROCESS (4. Candidate Sits Examination)" States:
"Candidates who fail to meet the required pass mark will be informed of
this by the Examination Provider and are encouraged to undergo further
study and re-sit the examination at a later date. Arrangements for
further study between an ATTC Provider and a failed Candidate are not
within the scope of the Program. Candidates who fail an examination are
not allowed to re-sit an examination again for a period of one (1) month."
So a candidate who sits and fails the bridge exam may instead sit the
level 1 exam without any delay. If the candidate passes level 1 they may
then immediately sit the Level 2 exam. They would thus become eligible
for TOGAF9 certification by this alternate route without waiting a month
to re-sit of the Bridge exam.
The converse is also true. A TOGAF8 certified architect who sits the
Level 1 (or 2) exam and fails it, could immediately sit the Bridge exam
instead and avoid the 1 month delay before a re-sit of level 1 (or 2).
Was this the intent? If not, does it matter?
If desired the specification could be clarified as follows:

Review Conclusion |
The intent is that a candidate failing an examination should have to wait at least one month
before attempting a retake including a first sitting of a related examination.
So someone who is eligible for the TOGAF 8 - 9 Advanced Bridge, who
fails the test and then decides to take the Part 1 route instead, would
still have to wait one month before they can attempt that test.
It is recommended that an interpretation should be granted and clarificatiion added when the
program documents are next updated. |
