Product Standard TOGAF 9 Training Course Accreditation
Certification Program TOGAF Certified by The Open Group
    Specification Training Course Accreditation Requirements
Location in Spec Response from CA.
Problem Summary Use of derivation of the standard crop-circle device in training materials.
    Problem Description
    [CSC template]
The Certification Authority has specified that a version of the TOGAF
ADM using in out training course be modified to "accurately represent
the reference material with no semantic differences".

We contend that organizations are encouraged to adapt TOGAF, so adding
information in this way is in the spirit of TOGAF and because a
distinctive style is used, there is no risk of confusing course
    participants.

On first occurence of the crop circle in our training materials, we use
the standard version from TOGAF 9, and it is clearly annotated "This is
the standard ADM graphic in TOGAF 9".

During a discussion of the Preliminary Phase we add an arrow between the
Preliminary Phase and Requirements Management, with the rationale
"Establish organizational context provides input to the Requirements
Management process to initiate the Architecture Vision phase".

This arrow is shown dashed and in a distinctive colour, pale blue, and
the diagram is clearly annotated "This is a derivation of the standard
TOGAF graphic, by <<training orghanisation". On subsequent occurences in
the course we use the derived graphic; the line remains dashed an in
    pale blue on overy occurence.

Review Response The Certification Authority is seeking feedback from the Specification
Authority as to whether it is acceptable for training providers to
teach a course with a material difference to the key "TOGAF 9 Crop
Circle" diagram, an element classified as TOGAF Core . In this
particular case the training course makes pervasive use of a variant of
the "TOGAF 9 Crop circle" .

It is the Certification Authority view that
such a key element of TOGAF should be represented as per the reference
material, and that changes to this diagram should only be allowed if
sanctioned by a formal interpretation by the Specification Authority.

Review Conclusion The following guidance has been provided by the Specification Authority
for use by the Certification Authority when reviewing submissions for
    accreditation:

Accredited TOGAF Training Providers are permitted to use derivations of
diagrams extracted from the TOGAF specification in Accredited TOGAF
    Training Courses providing that:

The standard diagram extracted from the TOGAF specification is
presented prior to the derivation and the modification is then clearly
identified as a variation and the justification for it is clearly
    explained.
