Problem Summary In the present Certification scheme for individuals a large group of
interested people do not have the possibility to attend a training and
    certify.
    i.e.
    - Architecture project member other than Practicing Architects (project
    managers, project s
    Problem Description
    [CSC template]
By limiting the (present) certification program for individuals a large
prospective group of possible TOGAF candidates miss out. Many of the
above mentioned groups would benefit from basic TOGAF training
comparable to (ITIL. Prince2, ASL, BiSL, COBIT, etc..... Foundation
    courses)
Furthermore, Architects who still need to develop from the Technical level
in the direction of Enterprise Architecture, and beginning Architects could
benefit from such a "Foundation" certification.

A typical Foundation course is 2 days + 40 Question MC exam, and is
    done as classroom/distance/blended learning.

This would require adaptation of the policy and a new training product
    spec.

    Other benefits:
--- First level up from overview/pocket guide material
---Easier to manage as first 'other language' training courses and
    certification/examination
    ---facilitates 'growth path' for candidates
---lower threshold for customers to send (larger groups of) staff to a
    TOGAF course
---expansion of the market for The Open Group
----wider market & more revenues for training providers
----entry level for new training providers (basic accreditation ? )

---May be of use to "split" TOGAF 9 --5 day+- course into basic/core part
of 2 days Foundation + 3 day certified practitioner part with
    wider/deeper scope.

Action (last conference call CSC 12-May-2008)
HvdB will raise the issue and come up with a position paper to show the
    possibilities.
