CONFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS |
Problem Summary |
Does the TOGAF 8 Training Product Standard allow a training course to be
a combination of distance learning and instructor led |
Problem Description [CSC template]
|
The first three paragraphs of the CONFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS of the TOGAF
8 Training Product Standard are as follows:
1. A TOGAF 8 TRAINING certified product (hereafter referred to simply as
the "course") may be a single course, or a defined configuration of
courses from a single family of related courseware. A course may be
delivered by live instructor(s) or by distance learning.
2. A conforming course, if delivered by live instructor(s), shall have a
minimum duration of four (4) days (assuming a 7-hour day). In the case
of a course delivered by distance learning, the minimum period of study
undertaken shall be equivalent to four (4) days (assuming a 7-hour day).
3. A conforming course shall enable its defined target audience to
acquire the knowledge and awareness of TOGAF 8.1 necessary to meet the
conformance requirements of the TOGAF 8 CERTIFIED Product Standard.
Paragraph 1 states that the course may be delivered by live instructors
or distance learning, there is no mention of a combination.
Paragraph 2 states that if instructor led that the course is a minimum
of four days, and if distance learning the equivalent of four days,
there is no mention of a combination.
As written this would appear to support the assertion that a course can
only be either instructor-led or distance learning and not a
combination. And in either case the course must have a minimum duration
of four days. Is this correct?

Review Conclusion |
A training course can be either distance learning, instructor led or a
combination of both. In all cases the time spent learning shall be
equivalent to four days (assuming a 7-hour day), and this study time
requirement and the breakdown of distance learning and instructor led
training will be made clear in all advertising.
For example a 100% instructor led course will be advertised as a 4 day **
instructor led course. A combination course with 50% instructor led
training would state that the course comprises two days instructor led
training plus two days equivalent distance learning.
** One day assumes a 7-hour day |
