    Product Standard TOGAF 8 Certified
Certification Program TOGAF Certified by The Open Group
Problem Summary Renewals policy for TOGAF Certified product standards needs revising
    Problem Description
    [CSC template]
At the time the TOGAF Certification Policy was put in place the forum
envisaged that certified architects would not require their
certification to be renewed since they would move to the next version of
TOGAF Certified. In the light of the shift to concentrate on skills base
(and also future moves to an exam) rather than TOGAF version, its now
clear that this needs revisiting since there is a need for those
certified to a specific TOGAF version to be able to retain their
    certification status.

Various proposals have been put forward for example to have indefinite
certification or to have a refresher exam(when exams are in place).

This change proposes that we retain the existing certification periods,
and just have renewal as as administrative item -- this therefore
ensures that the register is kept fresh and does not have stale data.

Changes to the policy are in Section 9.

Under TOGAF Certified, retain Duration of Certification as 24
Months, under Renewal Possible enter YES **

Under ** add "Note that Renewal is not applicable to those individuals
who have certified under the Interim Certification Requirements.
Those individuals must complete the requirements for full certification
at the end of the interim period and certify, or they will be removed
    form the register."

    In Section 9.2.

Replace existing text related to Individual certification under TOGAF
    Certified with

"Individuals who are TOGAF Certified renew their certification by paying
    the renewal fee."

A knock on change of this is that the web certification system and fee
    schedule will need revising.

Review Recommendation Certification System Deficiency (CSD)
Review Response It is recommended that this problem be handled as a certification system
deficiency (as it requires changes to the certification authority
operations), and the policy be interpretated as suggested.
This should be applied to both TOGAF 7 Certified and TOGAF 8 Certified.
As stated it is recommended that this not apply to individuals who have
been certified through the "Interim Conformance" requirements. This is
so we have a level playing field, to extend renewal for interim would
mean that some individuals have never met the formal Conformance
    requirements.

Review Conclusion A CSD is granted. See the problem statement for how this will result in
changes to the operation of the current program.
