    Published 2006-02-27 23:56
Product Standard Commands and Utilities V2 (UNIX 95)
Certification Program The Open Brand certification program
    Test Suite VSC version 5.2.7
    Test Identification POSIX.upe/vi/vi_01.ex,33
Specification Commands and Utilities Issue 4 Version 2
Problem Summary vi assertion 33 makes invalid assumption about the expect stty state.
Problem Text The test uses an expect script to send commands to the shell from vi
including, for example, this one and several other that contain embeded
    '#' characters:

    :!echo vi_33.08 >> vi_out_33_1 \#comment

The expect script includes the line:

    set stty_init "-echo"

Which makes the assumption that '#' is not used as a terminal control
character. If for example the erase chacter is set to '#', the test will
    fail.

We have run the test with the expect script line above set to

    set stty_init "-echo erase ^H"

    and the test passes.

We suggest modifying the test so that fewer assumptions are made
concerning the initial state of the terminal when using expect.
