    This test may fail on implementations because subsequent
    readdir() calls to the same directory stream may overwrite
    data from previous calls.

    The test uses readdir() to read past the '.' and '..' directory
    entries, verifying that the 1st and 2nd directory entries are
    indeed '.' and '..'.

    This is a nonportable implementation because on our platform
    readdir() overwrites data produced by a previous directory
    stream.

    The readdir() description states,

    The pointer returned by readdir() points to data which may be
    overwritten by another call to readdir() on the same directory
    stream.
