Problem Text
This test may fail on implementations where the second newline is
considered an error and causes ex to exit immediately.
At issue are the two successive newline characters in the following
command:
$ printf "recover ex_data_1\n\ns/jkl/345\n:w ex_out_1\n:q!\n" | ex ex_d
"ex_data_1" 4 lines, 16 characters
"ex_data_1" [Fri Nov 17 11:54:26 1995]
At end-of-file
This second newline is used to continue past any prompt ex may issue
when recovering a previous version of a file.
Our implementation issues no such prompt. After the file is
restored, the current line indicator is on the last line of the
file. The second newline character attempts to move the current
line beyond the last line of the edit buffer, which is an error.
This causes ex to terminate immediately because standard input is
not a terminal file. The substitute and write commands are never
executed and the test fails.Test Output
Assertion #252 (C): file recovery in other than visual mode
recover did not set current line to last line
*ERROR - JrnlDiff: unable to open or read file "ex_out_1".Review Information
