    Problem Report Number 0862
    Submitter's Classification Test Suite problem
    State Resolved
    Resolution Test Suite Deficiency (TSD)
    Problem Resolution ID TSD.X.0377
    Raised 1970-01-01 08:00
    Updated 2003-03-13 08:00
    Published 1995-12-06 08:00
Product Standard Commands and Utilities V2 (UNIX 95)
Certification Program The Open Brand certification program
    Test Suite VSC version 4.1.4
    Test Identification POSIX.upe/ex 10
Problem Summary TSD4C.00134 This test may fail on implementations because mutually exclusive options are being used in the test.
    Problem Text
This test may fail on implementations because mutually exclusive options
are being used in the test.

The Assertion #10 executes the ga29() function to confirm that -

ga29 - The order of different options relative to one another
    does not matter"

The assertion #10 passes "flags" as one of the arguments to ga29. The
contents of this variable is -

    flags="-R -s -v -w20"

As per the Synopsis for ex, the POSIX standard, section
    5.10.1, page 515, states that :

    5.10.1 Synopsis

ex [-rR] [-s|-v] [-c command] [-t tagstring] [-w size] [file...]

    Obsolescent Version
    ex [-rR] [-|-v] [+command] [-t tagstring] [-w size] [file...]

Note that the options -s and -v are mutually exclusive as
they are separeted by the "|" symbol. This is stated in the
POSIX standard page 99, section 2.20 as follows :

Arguments separated by the | vertical-line notation are
mutually exclusive. The | symbols shall never be included in
data submitted to the utility. Alternatively, mutually
exclusive options and operands may be listed with multiple
    synopsis lines.

    [...]

Only one of the mutually exclusive arguments is allowed for
    invocation of the utility."

The test passes both the -s and -v option to the ga29() function. The
-s and -v options in ex are mutually exclusive. Which means that both
of them cannot be given simultaneously. This causes the test to fail
    as UNRESOLVED.
