    This test may fail on implementations where # and/or @ are default
    control characters when a shell is spawned.

    The spawn command of expect sets the sane flag of stty when it spawns
    a shell. However, the definition of the sane flag defines
    "reasonable, unspecified, values" to be set. If an implementation
    defines the sane mode to include definitions of '#' and '@' control
    characters as erase and kill respectively, then the test will fail
    because now the characters are now being interpreted as control
    characters rather than commands to be used by the test.
