Problem Text
The tests may fail on implementations that adhere to historic practice
such that the command "ye" yanks up to and including the position
described by the "e" motion command. Although POSIX.2 interpretation
requests 64 and 75 reaffirm the behavior, the POSIX.2b draft reinstates
the historic behavior.
The test assertions listed test an area of POSIX.2 which the POSIX.2
interpretation committe has determined to be in error (see IEEE
interpretations PASC 1003.2-92 #64, question #35, 36, 37, 38, 53, 54,
55; PASC 1003.2-92 #78, question #15).
The regions marked out by motion commands when supplied to commands
requiring a motion argument (c, d, y, >, and <) is described in POSIX.2b
draft.11 section 5.35.7.2 for each motion command in question. In most
instances, historical regions have been maintained, however the word, sentence,
paragraph, and section motion commands have been normalised in their handling
of empty lines and the regions they spanned.
Our implementation conforms to the draft POSIX.2b standard, which
regularizes the behaviour of Ex/Vi in this area. Since this area of
POSIX.2 is subject to change, we request a temporary interpretation
allowing the behaviour described by POSIX.2b.
