    Problem Report Number 0559

    State Resolved
    Resolution Rejected (REJ)
    Problem Resolution ID REJ.X.0163
    Raised 1970-01-01 08:00
    Updated 2003-03-13 08:00
    Published null
Product Standard Commands and Utilities V3 (UNIX 98)
Certification Program The Open Brand certification program
    Test Suite VSC version 5.0.1
    Test Identification XOPEN.cmd/sum 1001 1003
Problem Summary PG4C.00115 The request applies for a TSD because the test does not allow all possible combinations of white space a vaild output line may have.
    Problem Text

These assertions use the following line to compare the output from the sum
    command to an expected result:

    if expr "$(cat $CT_STDOUT)" : "^[1-9][0-9]* $lfs_blks $lfs_fs/sum1001.tmp/10
    01.tmp$" >/dev/null

So the expected output for the checksum is to begin with digits 1-9. However
on page 697 of the XPG5 XBD, it states the following:

For each file processed successfully, sum writes a line of the following
    format:

    "%u %d %s\n", <checksum>,<number of 512-byte units>,<pathname>"

The %u format specifier is described on page 41 of the XPG5 XBD where
    it states the following:

"d,i,o,u,x,X .... If both the field width and precision are omitted, the
implementation may precede, follow or precede and follow
numeric arguments of types d, i and u with blank characters; "

Therefore leading blanks are allowed for the checksum value.

    Review Response
We recommend this request be refused.

The submitter is correct and we will change the test to accept a
wider variation of output in the next release. But TSDs may only
be granted for tests that FAIL. This test does not FAIL. Its
    result code is INSPECT.

When the submitter sends a test report in for branding all he
need do is sign off as having manually verified the results from
    this test are acceptable.
