    Our system supports network connected synchronous and asynchronous
    terminals by way of pseudo-ttys. It does not support locally connected
    asynchronous terminals. Network connected asynchronous terminals
    do support the GTI for all practical purposes, but they do not support
    hardware related features of RS232 connected devices, such as parity
    generation / detection (PARENB, PARODD), character size (other than
    CS8), and stop bits (CSTOPB). With pseudo-ttys there is also no
    receiver hardware. So, CREAD is not appropriate.

    We provide pseudo-ttys, which support the GTI for all
    practical purposes, but do not support the hardware related features
    listed above.

    We therefore apply for a waiver as laid down in section 9.3.8 of the
    VSX User and Installation Guide, on the basis that our hardware does
    not support the above features.
