    Problem Text
In our implementation, symbolic links are created with permissions 777.

I reported this problem as a test case error and received the following
    response:

"There appears to be a discrepancy between the assertion for test 1
and the XNFS specification. The assertion indicates that the attributes
for the link are set to the attributes specified in the call, however
the specification states that "servers may ignore the attributes
depending on the symbolic link model they use". It is unfortunate that
this was not picked up during the assertion review, as this would have
allowed the issue to be resolved by now rather than being raised
    at this late stage.

The simple solution would be to change the attribute checks to give
warnings, or to remove them altogether. However, we are concerned that
there may be some subtle interoperability issues that have not been
through. We would like the matter to be discussed by the
relevant X/Open technical groups before we change the test suite.

If the issue does not resolve before the GA release, a possible interim
measure would be to change the attribute checks to give FIP results."

It was unclear to me if the test suite group was going to resolve this.

    Review Response
We recommend that this issue be considered by the appropriate working group
so that they become aware of the differences between implementations and can
assure themselves that there are no interoperability issues concerning the
    attributes of symbolic links.

However, from a conformance point of view, the XNFS specification states that
these attributes can be ignored and it is recommended that this failure be
classified as a test suite deficiency.
